The Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners have been promoting active stewardship of the Cherry Creek wastershed since 1999.  Every year the group holds a conference and at this year’s conference, Brent Kaslon of Valerian LLC was invited to speak about Creekside Quest, an interactive learning environment for children in the heart of Cherry Creek Valley Ecological Park.
During the presentation Brent detailed the project goals, the design team and their process, project construction and the use of volunteer oriented construction to combat increasing construction costs.
An interesting observation made during the volunteer construction day is that without adults to read and interpret the signage for young children, they use their imaginations and the native village becomes a jail for bad guys and the remnant cabin an actively burning house.  The take home message is: Creekside Quest – Children at Play, No Signage Required.
