EASTLAKE PLAZA

The historic town of Eastlake is envisioned as the City of Thornton’s “Main Street” and was originally designed with small lots and a grid street system with alleyways, which remain today and help define the unique character of Eastlake. Development of the historic town of Eastlake has been heavily influenced by the railroad and by agriculture.

Valerian worked with the City of Thornton to create a functional and special community gathering place adjacent to the RTD station that includes the First Street streetscape improvements and Eastlake Plaza. These spaces were designed to emphasize the historic character of Eastlake and the surrounding areas while providing a functional space with formalized parking for the neighborhood.

The plaza includes a grand staircase to the ornate, steel pavilion which was designed for public events with informal seating areas. It also provides large open areas for programmed events. The streetscape and native seed lawn areas soften the hardscape to emphasize the “Main Street” character.

““Valerian is an excellent design firm. They worked well with the City providing outstanding projects within budget””
