Jackass Gulch Stabilization Improvements

The Jackass Gulch stabilization improvements at the High Line Canal is an important initiative aimed at addressing critical pond and channel stabilization needs in the City of Littleton, Colorado. This effort is focused on enhancing the resilience of Jackass Gulch by stabilizing the waterway and implementing water quality detention. These improvements are essential to safeguarding the local environment and infrastructure, while also contributing to the long-term sustainability and safety of the surrounding community. The once-eroded Jackass Gulch is now a resilient waterway with stabilized slopes, boulder drop structures, and native plantings. These new features will reduce flood intensity and support a healthy ecosystem while providing a safe recreational area for the community. Site amenities include an overlook at the High Line Canal Trail, accessible concrete trails, seating areas, interpretive signage and a new trail node along the Mineral Trail.

Valerian collaborated with SSPRD, the High Line Canal Conservancy and the City of Littleton to develop custom interpretative signage that educates visitors on the local fauna and the importance of stream resilience. Additional historical context of the park site is included with the history of transportation in Littleton as well as the namesake of Jackass Hill.
