Skyline Park Groundbreaking

Denver Marks Official Groundbreaking for Skyline Park Block 2 Improvements

Constructed between 1972 and 1975, this one-acre linear park and plaza was a central feature of the Skyline Urban Renewal District, a revitalization plan conceived in the 1950s for Lower Downtown Denver. Designed by Lawrence Halprin, the plaza was intended as an urban oasis and gateway to central downtown. The park was originally designed to be a unified green space for everyone. Over time, incremental changes and updates disrupted this continuity, fragmenting the park experience and limiting accessibility.

Beginning in 2020, Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR), the Downtown Denver Partnership and RIOS launched a series of community workshops to develop a new concept master plan for this three-block park. Block 2 is the first phase of the project slated for design and construction, with Valerian serving as a project partner to provide the planting, irrigation design and construction oversight.

On February 11, 2026, we celebrated the official groundbreaking for the Skyline Block 2 Improvements—the first phase of construction for this transformational project. Block 2 will bring an interactive water plaza, winter ice rink, shaded picnic grove, stormwater planters, outdoor dining spaces, a stage for small events, a park café and more.

This milestone marks the beginning of a more vibrant, accessible, and community-centered Skyline Park for everyone to enjoy. Stay tuned for updates as the vision comes to life!
