Billy Cordova Memorial Park Grand Opening

On Saturday, July 12 the long anticipated Billy Cordova Memorial Park celebrated its Grand Opening in Buena Vista. Members of Buena Vista (BV) Recreation Department, GOCO (Great Outdoors Colorado), members of Cordova’s family, and others who helped see the park come to fruition gathered for the ribbon cutting. Valerian’s Stacey Stickler attended the ceremony and remarked “This has been a delight. It’s been wonderful working with the community, the Cordova family, with the town, and Shane and Earl certainly … I can’t think of a better way to honor Billy than with a park like this. This park is a place for people to gather. It’s a place for people to make friends. It’s a place for children to play and learn,”.

The park has been in the works for several years – GOCO was able to provide the additional funding along with community build efforts to see the project through to completion. The park is first responder themed and honors local Battalion Chief Billy Cordova as its namesake. In addition to playground equipment the park also features a covered pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms for community gatherings.
