It’s been years in the making but Monday September 21st marks the opening of Denver’s newest commuter rail corridor, the N-Line. The entire 18.5-mile N Line is part of RTD’s 2004 voter-approved FasTracks program to expand transit across the Denver metro region. Construction on the line began in March 2014. When the corridor is complete, it will reach North Adams County and include two additional stations, for a total of eight new stations. The remaining 5.5 miles of the corridor will be built as funds become available.
Valerian served as the landscape architect and irrigation designer for the completed 6 stations serving the north metro Denver area. Riders will be able to park and ride to Union Station in downtown Denver from the following locations:
- Eastlake at 124th Station – Thornton, CO
- 112th Station – Northglenn, CO
- Crossroads at 104th Station – Thornton, CO
- 88th Station – Thornton, CO
- 72nd Station – Commerce City, CO
- National Western Center – Denver, CO
Due to Covid-19, the grand opening ceremony was held virtually but riders can still enjoy free rides through September 27th. Then as part of a promotional pilot program, RTD will offer a local fare for travel on the entirety of the line during its first six months of operation.
Valerian is hopeful that this new rail line will serve as a convenient link for residents and visitors to downtown Denver and alleviate some of the traffic on I-25. Be sure to visit the plaza at Eastlake as well, this amenity will no doubt be a boon to Thornton’s ‘Main Street’ as its ready to host farmer’s markets and food trucks as soon as its safe to gather once again!
