Salida Skatepark Grand Opening

The Salida Skatepark is now open! The long awaited grand opening was an amazing turnout with skaters and bikers of all ages. The skatepark is located in Centennial Park in Salida, Colorado and is part of the first phase of planned improvements for the park site. Valerian partnered with Grindline Skateparks, Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers, and Salida Parks and Recreation to site the skatepark, including avoiding the removal of the large trees in the park. Today, the skatepark facility weaves through a mixture of well-established trees and provides shade to its users.

The skatepark project was spearheaded by Friends of Salida Skateparks (FOSS), a community volunteer group composed of local skaters, bmxers, and park supporters of all ages. FOSS spent a year and a half building community support through grassroots fundraising and with support from elected city officials and staff as well as volunteer work from FOSS, the City of Salida was awarded a $350,000 Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant in March 2020 and a $10,000 grant from The Skatepark Project (formerly The Tony Hawk Foundation) for construction of the new 14,000 square foot skatepark.

Great job to everyone who was involved – this was a true community effort! For more information about the skatepark go to the Friends of Salida Skateparks Facebook page.
